In the line of fire ....
Caxtons was delighted to help a group of Year 10 students at Northfleet School for Girls on a project as part of their business studies course - Edexcel BTEC LT Extended Certificate in Business – Starting a Small Business.

In 'Dragons' Den' format, the students had to come up with a business idea, consider the potential market for their business, discuss the legal issues, develop a business plan and then present their proposal to a panel of experts which included the chairman of the school governors and a Caxtons' associate director, who was one of the Dragons for the day.

We were very impressed with the representation. Each

group consisted of between 2 and 4 girls and they put forward various business proposals such as dog grooming & boarding kennels in Meopham, car cleaning in the school car park, selling ice creams in the school canteen, a wedding shop serving the needs of a multi-cultural society, a cup cake stand in Bluewater, a card shop selling personalised cards, and an activity centre next to the new Cyclopark in Gravesend.

Most of the girls gave good and convincing presentations and they all prepared cash flow forecasts, which showed their start-up and running costs. I was very impressed with how confident most of the girls were at presenting in front of a panel of people they had not met before.

Caxtons was invited on the panel because of the help Caxtons has provided to the school's work experience program.
