On Saturday 24th November nine brave, or bonkers, representatives from Caxtons scaled a quarter of a vertical mile in the pursuit of fundraising on behalf of ‘ellenor’ hospice.
On the day, the team gathered their collective strength to complete the challenge, ‘running’ up a total of 2,631 stairs in the City of London’s Broadgate Tower in. In order to complete the task, the team had to climb the 35 floors of the 585 ft (178.3 metres) tower three times – no mean feat.
It took them 8 hours and 56 minutes but they did it, and in the process raised almost £1500 for their chosen charity.
‘ellenor’ is a Kent based charity offering care and support to families facing terminal illness. It is the only charity in the country to provide hospice care for people of all ages, from babies and children through to adults and the elderly. In addition ‘ellenor’ supports the families who are profoundly affected by their loved ones’ illnesses.
Caxtons’ team comprised Tony Martin, Neil Chatterton, Charlotte Laherty, Holly Doran, Emma Tew, Amelia Pavey, Sarah Singer, Ellie Martin and Lewis Hutchinson, who were all determined to complete the challenge.
To add to the coffers an office sweepstake was held for staff to guess how long it would take the team to complete the task. The winner was a member of the commercial services department (he’d obviously been up and down a few commercial buildings) who was just 6 minutes out at 8 hrs 50 mins. He has asked for anonymity …because he wasn’t part of the conquering team!
